What to do (1)
When Victor first told us that we would be doing a sound game, I was honestly a little bit terrified of that. For some reason, it sounded the most complicated to me. I think that is because I thought of using spatial audio and making the player explore the world.
Then, I forgot about it because I had more immediate problems I had to deal with.
When it was time to do the sound game, then I went back to my spatial audio game idea. I wanted to make the player search for things, or perhaps characters, in a dark setting. I pictured it being top-down 2D, even though it sounded like a pain in the butt to make the assets —because my hubris would not allow me to use premade assets again.
However, I had a moment of enlightenment.
What if I made a game about hearing languages and recognising them?
It was an incredibly simpler idea, but at the same time it was quite different from the other games I had made before. I asked if it was possible to do it, and with the approval, I decided to keep it in mind.
…
It really did not take me too long to decide to make my language game, I thought I deserved to make a simple thing this time and not tryhard it too much.
(Spoiler alert from the future: I did, in fact, try to tryhard it. And then I decided to make it simpler, and I still tryharded the simple version)
